Propaganda Breakdown: “Obama got Roseanne fired.”

Let’s go with the assumption that Obama called for the firing of Roseanne. He didn’t, Bob Iger confirmed he did it alone in his 2019 memoir “The Ride of a Lifetime.” But let’s pretend…

Even if Obama called for the firing of the firing happened on May 2018. Meaning Trump was president and Obama was a private citizen.

The first amendment protects us from actions of the US Government causing censorship, not from private citizens.

You can call my employer and demand I be fired. It is then up to my employer to make that choice. If they choice to fire me then no one’s free speech has been violated.

I kept my free speech because the government didn’t cause my firing. You exercised your free speech by complaining to my employer. And my employer exercised their free speech by firing me and picking who they want associated with their company. It sucks I would be out of a job but my rights are not violated.

The issue is when a public facing government agent uses their position to demand the firing of someone because they don’t like what that person said.

Like the head of the FCC demanding ABC take action against Jimmy Kimmel or they will lose their broadcast license.

Or the President saying that companies that say “bad things about him” should lose their license.

That is a violation of free speech.

One is accountability, one is censorship. Simple as that.
